Slabtown History

With backgrounds in classic country, contemporary country, classic rock, contemporary rock, bluegrass, and a dash of good beer-drinking tunes, Slabtown is a group of great musicians hailing from all over Pennsylvania.  The group started as a bunch of friends who met at a Penn State branch campus drinking beer and singing country songs around a campfire.  When "the boys" were transferred to Penn State main campus, they got together on weekends and began putting the campfire songs together into a country/rock arrangement. After a few weekends of visiting the various outdoor interest/agricultural fraternities, Justin and Jared were invited to play at Tau Phi Delta.  The night they were supposed to play was cancelled and the band was fortunate enough to pick up a show at Delta Theta Sigma.  Within a month, Slabtown began their first recording of Pennsylvania.  The following fall, the album was sold at the two frats and to families and friends.  Pennsylvania sold about 300 copies all over the state and the band started to gain popularity for their live shows and their album.  In November of 2005, the band was on an AM radio show based in Indiana, Pennsylvania called the Acoustic Hour (AM 1160), where their cd was featured weekly.  The host of the show, Anthony Frasier, told the band about a great recording studio in Indiana called Mostuda productions, Inc.  In January of 2006 the band met Sean Moran, a truly amazing harmonist and phenomenal sound engineer.  Their second CD Heroes and Heartaches was ready for sale by May of 2006.  From May 22nd through the 26th the boys were in Nashville where they got to play a few songs at some of the local honky-tonks.  Now they are back in Pennsylvania playing parties and bars all around the state.

The name Slabtown comes from a road that ran through the branch campus where all four of us met.  The dorms were on a road called Slabtown road in a small town near the Maryland border called Mont Alto.
